Suphala has composed, produced, and engineered four albums featuring several special guests. Instru Mental (Suphala Production) features Vernon Reid and Fafu, The Now (Rasa/ Tommy Boy) features Norah Jones and Vikter Duplaix, Blueprint (Suphala Productions) features King Britt, Harper Simon, and Rakesh Chaurasia, and Alien Ancestry (Tzadik) features Jose James, Vijay Iyer and Bill Laswell.
Uninhibited by genre, her concerts around the world break ground, whether performing with electronics or within a thousand-year-old tradition. Suphala made history when she became the first musician to play in public in Kabul, Afghanistan, after the fall of the Taliban. She has been featured and interviewed around the globe in the NYTimes, Vogue, Drum!, Rolling Stone, Elle, CNN, NPR, and several other press outlets.
Mentored in the Indian Classical music tradition by the world's leading tabla masters Ustad Allarakha and Ustad Zakir Hussain, Suphala is also fluent in a diversity of musical traditions having studied Western Classical music on piano since age 4 and absorbing many forms of popular music styles. These influences inform her unique compositions, highly improvisational performances, and contemporary approach.
She collaborates regularly and has recorded or performed with Perry Ferrell (Jane's Addiction), Timbaland (Missy Elliott), Sean Lennon, and Yoko Ono, among many others. Most recently, Suphala has performed and recorded with Brass Against, and Donna Grantis (Prince, 3rd eye girl), Suphala constantly creates new artistic alliances.
